Ministering to prisoners is one of the focus areas of our work. Light of life international ministry reaches out to prisoners in jails at different parts of Ethiopia and helps them with things they lack for survival in crowded prison cells. The ministry got access to some prisons within the country and used this opportunity to speak to the inmates about their challenges. schools were constructed in some of the prisons that Light of life international ministry is frequently visiting. In 2024, Mohammed Amin visited some of the prisons in the Oromia region. About 2000 to 3000 prisoners are found in the visited prisons. Mohammed sat with the prisoners and discussed closely with the prisoners and ministered to men and women prisoners separately in different sessions.
In addition to constructing school within the prison compound, Light of life international ministry also constructs Kitchen and toilettes for the prisoners. Furthermore, basic necessities such as mattresses, blankets, soaps and toilet papers are donated.

thousands of people are found in this prison, including women and children. Their living conditions are very bad. They don’t have mattresses and blankets. The toilet is in its worst condition: the dirt is flowing out on the ground surface; the building is about to collapse.

Mattresses and blankets were bought and distributed to the prisoners. The weakest and most vulnerable prisoners were identified, Mattresses and blankets were given to them.

The situation in the prison affected the women and children more seriously than male prisoners. The Light of life international ministry supported women prisoners by providing not only mattresses and blankets but also soaps, sanitary pads and toilette papers. This is done regularly to keep continuous supply.

A lot of children and babies are in the prison that came along with their mothers, who were imprisoned. However they don’t get any special care and treatment that little children need. The international ministry supplied powder milk and nutritious food. In addition to this Light of life international ministry supplies different foods like injera, meat and Juices to the children.

Provision of safe drinking water Access to clean drinking water is the number one infrastructural problem in rural villages. People have to travel long distances to fetch water from streams, ponds or wells. Women and children are spending most of their time collecting water and therefore children, especially girls, do not have time to go to school. To alleviate such interrelated problems, Light of life international ministry undertakes water supply projects parallel to supporting schools. Water projects are accomplished by the Light of life international ministry every year. In 2024, clean drinking water was supplied to one of the remote villages where there is shortage of water. The water well was dug manually to a depth of 46 meters. A power-driven submersible-pump was installed to pump water up to the surface. The submersible-pump is operated by electric power. However, the electric power supply in the country is not reliable. Electric blackouts happen frequently during the day and at times the blackout remains for several days or weeks. This necessitated the need for water storage. For this purpose, a water storage-tank was bought from a distributor and transported to the location. The water tank has a storage capacity of 2000 liters (= 2 m3 water). The storage tank can be filled whenever there is electric power and makes water available at times Provision of safe drinking water: (a) started serving 3000 people Picture 16: Villagers collecting water and a lady pulling a cart along with her kids. She is already carrying a baby on her back in addition to the four children behind the cart. Normally, such a cart is pulled by a donkey but since this family does not own a donkey, the women had to pull it. Yet, sheis very happy that she could get water in her village; otherwise she would have traveled longer distances to collect water for her family
